Jose
Sulaiman will be remembered as a man of integrity, honorability and
pure heart. Inspired by his heroes, believed in unbreakable values and
principles and lived a life to the fullest and he did it his way, as
Frank Sinatra would sing on "My Way".
Always
successful, a natural leader who would never give up, "there are no
impossible tasks, some just take a bit longer". That was the spirit of
Don Jose. His life dedicated to the service of others, inspired by his
parents education and example, led to a life full of satisfactions, he
took tremendous joy by helping others, specially the underprivileged and
the discriminated.
Many
call him the father of boxing; he certainly treated all fighters as his
sons and daughters, he suffered from their problems and worked every
single day of his life to try to make boxing better and safer.
Regardless if the boxer was an amateur or if he was Mike Tyson or
Chavez, he would treat them the same and would relentlessly try to help
each one at all times.
Nelson Mandela inspired him to fight against discrimination, battled
Apartheid and always struggled to prevent the abuse of power, which hurt
the lesser gifted. He led many actions towards dignifying the sport of
boxing, the female practice of boxing and the justice for trainers,
managers, promoters and specially boxers.
Pope John Paul II inspired him to be a better human being every day and
to be humble, to serve and love. Pope Francis brought faith back to him
in these few months as God's representative on earth and the Virgin of
Guadalupe remained by his side at all times while Jesus Christ was his
greatest guide and inspiration.
Our dear father fought the last 12 rounds of his life, inspired by his
hero Muhammad Ali, his corner formed by many doctors, nurses, care
partners, therapist, lift team and staff at 7ICU at UCLA and with
thousands cheering him from all over the world...
The final bell rang; Jose Sulaiman, winner by unanimous decision!

José Sulaimán Chagnón será recordado como un hombre íntegro, honorable y
de corazón puro. Inspirado en sus héroes, vivió bajo principios y
valores inquebrantables y fue una de gran aventura, felicidad y logros y
lo hizo a su manera, tal y como lo cantó el gran Frank Sinatra en su
clásico "A mi Manera".
Siempre exitoso, un líder innato que jamás se dio por vencido; para él
nada era imposible, había cosas que tomaban más tiempo, pero lo
conseguía; ese fue el espíritu de Don José. Un hombre dedicado al
servicio de los demás, inspirado en la educación y el ejemplo de sus
padres Doña Wasila y Don Elías, llevando una vida entera llena de
satisfacciones, disfrutó siempre el poder ayudar a los demás, en
especial a los más necesitados y los discriminados.
Muchos lo llamaron el padre del boxeo, en realidad siempre trató a los
boxeadores y boxeadoras como sus hijos e hijas; sufrió por sus problemas
y todos los días trabajó tratando de hacer el boxeo mejor y más seguro.
Sin importar si el peleador era amateur o se tratara de Mike Tyson o
Julio César Chávez, los trató por igual y siempre luchó sin tregua para
tratar de solucionar cual fuera el problema de cualquiera de ellos.
Nelson
Mandela lo inspiró a luchar contra la discriminación racial, luchó
contra el Apartheid y siempre luchó en contra del abuso de poder,
lidereó incontables acciones para dignificar el deporte, el boxeo, el
boxeo femenil y siempre luchó por la justicia en protección de
promotores, managers, entrenadores y sobre todo los boxeadores.
El Papa Juan Pablo II lo inspiró a ser un mejor ser humano día tras
día, a ser humilde, respetuoso a servir y amar. El Papa Francisco le
trajo nuevos votos de esperanza en estos pocos meses que ha sido el
representante de Dios en la tierra y la Virgencita de Guadalupe estuvo a
su lado en todo momento mientras Jesucristo fue su eterna guía e
inspiración.
Nuestro padre
peleó los últimos 12 rounds de su vida inspirado en su héroe Muhammad
Ali; en su esquina estuvieron muchos doctores, enfermeras, terapeutas,
asistentes, camilleros y todos los pertenecientes a la Unidad de Terapia
Intensiva 7ICU de UCLA así como miles de amigos y compañeros apoyando y
animándolo alrededor del mundo.
Sonó la campana final; el ganador de esta pelea, por decisión unánime.. José Sulaimán Chagnón
