Olympic Games: 2028 and 2032

The Central Board also received updates on the ongoing preparations for the Olympic Games for Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032. The LA28 Organizing Committee has recently announced the dates for when the men's and women's Basketball tournaments will be played at the Inglewood Dome and 3x3 Basketball at the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.

FIBA Continental Cups

The Central Board reviewed reports on the successful FIBA Continental Cups held from June to September, showcasing strong performances and growing fan engagement across both the men’s and women’s competitions in all regions.

The champions for 2025 are:

FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2025: Nigeria
FIBA AfroBasket 2025: Angola
FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2025: USA
FIBA AmeriCup 2025: Brazil
FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2025: Australia
FIBA Asia Cup 2025: Australia

FIBA EuroBasket 2025: Germany

FIBA Masters Open 2026

The Central Board has approved the inaugural FIBA Masters Open, to be held in Greece next year, in collaboration with the Hellenic Basketball Federation. More details here

FIBA Youth World Cups

The Central Board received reports on the youth World Cups that took place this year with the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 held in Switzerland and the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2025 in Czechia. Both events demonstrated strong engagement and digital growth, with the tournament in Switzerland successfully unveiling GeniusIQ - an AI-driven system that delivers real-time in-game optical tracking and powers augmented broadcasts featuring live data overlays such as player speed, shot charts, and momentum swings.

The Central Board has also approved a change in host city for the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2027, with Pardubice set to host the event instead of Prague.

Club Competitions

A comprehensive report was given on the recent FIBA Intercontinental Cup, which was played in Singapore and saw Unicaja claim the title for a second year in a row.

Reports were also received on the
Road to BAL Season 6, where five teams, Nairobi City Thunder (Kenya), Al Ahly Benghazi (Libya), Jeunesse Club Abidjan Kings (Ivory Coast), Johannesburg Giants (South Africa), and Dar City (Tanzania), have secured qualification for the Basketball Africa League.

Additionally, the Central Board reviewed updates on the current Basketball Champions League Season 10 and preparations for BCL Americas Season 7 and BCL Asia 2026.

The Central Board also reviewed the progress in the discussions with the NBA for a new league in Europe connected to the Basketball Champions League and domestic Leagues, following the joint announcement earlier this year, as well as the recent meetings with ECA and NBA organised by FIBA in its role as the world governing body of the sport.

3x3

The Central Board was given updates on the preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, including the Road to LA qualification pathway, as well as on 3x3's most recent events, covering National Team competitions and the Professional Circuit, which has featured the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series and the FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2025 Finals. Canada claimed the Women’s Series Final title in Shanghai, while Ub (Serbia) triumphed at the World Tour Final in Manama.

Empower National Federations

The Central Board was presented with an update on the strategic priority of Empower National Federations. In 2025, FIBA Plus delivered planning support in 35 countries, while implementation support reached more than 50 countries.

The FIBA Academy Leaders Program also launched with 25 participants, marking a significant step in empowering future basketball leaders. The program will continue with its first on-site sessions next week in Qatar.

Sustainability

The Central Board has formally endorsed FIBA's new Sustainability Strategy 2025–2029, which has been structured around two core areas of responsibility: FIBA as an organization and FIBA as an event owner. This framework ensures that sustainability is integrated into both FIBA's internal operations and into the planning and delivery of FIBA competitions.

National Federation Matters

The Central Board decided to continue analyzing the situation of safety and security in Israel and Iran, and when the situation allows so, to be ready to return with games of FIBA competitions in the respective territories.

The Central Board decided to maintain the current status of Russia and Belarus until the FIBA Executive Committee meeting of mid-February 2026, following the IOC Session in Milan-Cortina. The Central Board also approved that, when the situation allows, FIBA will be ready to enact extraordinary competition measures to maintain players from the two federations on the pathway for the LA28 Olympic Games, considering that it is no longer possible to participate in major FIBA tournaments in 2026 and 2027, where the qualification is already underway.

Regulations

The Central Board approved amendments to the regulations for the National Status of players, notably clarifying the process under which players, both in Basketball and 3x3, have their national status determined or changed, introducing more objective criteria. Going forward, players who obtained a passport before the age of 18 (rather than 16) will not be considered as restricted, while players who have participated with a national team in senior main FIBA tournaments will no longer be able to play for another national team.

Other Matters

The Central Board received a report on the FIBA Foundation's activities for 2025, highlighting its continued efforts to use basketball as a tool for social development worldwide, while promoting cultural heritage and strengthening its position as the global reference for international basketball knowledge.

The Central Board approved the Budget 2026 and acknowledged the plan for 2027-2029.

DECEMBER 4, 2025

MIES (Switzerland) - The FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike, has been updated following the conclusion of the first window of the  Qualifiers. This marks the first ranking release since the .

USA retained the number one spot after collecting two victories in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers. The Paris 2024 gold medalists defeated Nicaragua twice in the first window of the Qualifiers on the Road to Qatar 2027.

The defending World Cup 2023 and EuroBasket 2025 champions Germany are still second after wins over Israel and Cyprus in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers.

The rest of the top 10 remained unchanged - but movement could come soon. Canada grabbed two wins to close the gap on France, who went 1-1 in the window, while Lithuania’s 1-1 record leaves them with only a minimal lead over Brazil, who collected two victories.

The first change appears at No. 11, where Türkiye leapfrogged Latvia after securing two wins, while Latvia finished the window at 1-1. Latvia are also in danger of slipping further, with Greece sitting just 0.3 points behind after likewise picking up two wins. Besides Türkiye in Europe, Lebanon, Mexico, and Cape Verde are the highest teams moving up for Asia and Oceania, the Americas, and Africa, respectively.

Among the biggest climbers in the standings were Jamaica, who moved up eight spots to number 87 after beating Puerto Rico twice in the window. FIBA World Cup 2027 hosts Qatar went up five spots to 78th thanks to a historic win over Lebanon in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.

Guinea concluded Window 1 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers as the only undefeated team after three games and moved up two spots in the rankings. Thanks to their participation in Window 1, Rwanda jumped nine places to 81st and Libya rose five spots to 91st. Meanwhile, teams from Groups B and D, who did not play, are expected to gain points when they take part in the next window in February 2026.

There were four new teams in the rankings thanks to their participation in the FIBA Melanesian Cup 2025. The tournament champions Papua New Guinea enter at No. 157 followed by third placed Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. The Melanesian Cup finalists Fiji improved five spots to No. 147.

This NBA season, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation is launching its “Fine(d) and Philanthropic” campaign to make sure NBA players get their fine money back. The campaign is designed to remind players that when they are fined, that money is channeled through the NBPA Foundation as funding for the players’ charitable work.

Click HERE to see the Fine(d) and Philanthropic campaign spot featuring Chet Holmgren, Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Derrick White.
  • How it works: Half of all NBA player fine money powers the NBPA Foundation’s matching grants program, where current NBA players can get up to $25,000 each season to support the social impact initiatives they are passionate about. For example, during the 2025 offseason, the NBPA Foundation provided $1.6m in matching player grants to support the initiatives of 102 active/retired players. The other half of the fine money goes to the league’s NBA Cares community program.

  • The Fine(d) and Philanthropic hats: To make this point visually, the NBPA Foundation teamed tip with artist Jacob Rochester to create exclusive ‘"Fined and Philanthropic" hats for the players to champion how their fine money is used to fuel meaningful community investment.

CHICAGO BULLS’ TRE JONES NAMED NBA CARES BOB LANIER COMMUNITY ASSIST AWARD WINNER FOR OCTOBER

– Jones Helped Raise More Than $1.1 Million Towards Cancer Research and Awareness,

Committed Resources to Important Issues Facing Chicago –

NEW YORK, Nov. 21, 2025 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) today announced Chicago Bulls guard Tre Jones as the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for October.  Jones is being recognized for helping raise more than $1.1 million towards cancer research and awareness, and for supporting violence prevention and local businesses in Chicago.  The NBA and the NBPA Foundation will donate $20,000 to The V Foundation for Cancer Research (Jimmy V Foundation) in recognition of Jones’ efforts.  Jones is the fourth Chicago Bull to receive this award since 2023.

In September, Jones co-hosted the 2025 Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research Chicago Epicurean gala and auction that raised $1.13 million towards advancing cancer research, an issue that is especially important to Jones.  Jones’ mother, Debbie, is a breast cancer survivor, and Jones has consistently used his platform to raise awareness of the disease.  During the gala, the Jimmy V Foundation announced a research grant in honor of Debbie Jones, with funds supporting research by the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center to improve immunotherapy options for cancer patients.

For the third consecutive year, Jones participated in the Susan G. Komen VIPink campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The Susan G. Komen Foundation strives to save lives and meet community needs by investing in breakthrough breast cancer research.  In support of the VIPink campaign, Jones encouraged people to donate to breast cancer research and treatment, and he distributed pink wristbands to Bulls players and staff in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In addition to championing cancer research and awareness, Jones is active in Chicago through his support of violence prevention, local business development and climate change activism.  He partnered with the Obama Foundation’s Brotherhood Rising Program, which builds safe and supportive communities for young men and boys in Chicago.  As an incentive, Jones will invite all who finish the six-week program to a Bulls game, including an exclusive meet-and-greet courtside before the game.

Jones also participated in the sixth year of the Bulls and BMO’s Spotlight Business Program, which uplifts and spotlights small businesses in Chicago, providing them with meaningful opportunities to reach their full potential.  He contributed by visiting Lovely Intentions – one of five Chicago small businesses selected as part of this year’s cohort – and sat with the owners to discuss their inspiration, mission and how Bulls fans can learn more about their business.  His visit to Lovely Intentions will be chronicled in December across Bulls social media platforms.

Jones has also been an advocate for Adapt2win, a global campaign calling on COP30 leaders to invest in climate adaptation.  He joined fellow professional athletes from around the world in this new endeavor, aiming to mount the “largest comeback of all time” off the court by shifting financial investments to solutions that help communities withstand extreme weather and climate events.

“I’m grateful for the chance to use my voice to advocate for important causes like cancer research, climate adaptation and local business development,” said Jones.  “I look forward to continuing this work to raise awareness, provide resources, and help those in need in Chicago and beyond.”

Jones serves on the board of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition, which leads the NBA family’s efforts to advance bipartisan social justice policy promoting community safety, criminal justice reform, policing reform, and voting rights.  Jones is also a contributor to The Power of Basketball: NBA Players, Coaches, and Team Governors on the Fight to Make a Better America—a book of essays written by leaders across the NBA and WNBA committed to social justice.

The NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award honors NBA legend and Hall of Famer Bob Lanier, an NBA League Office executive and NBA Cares Ambassador for more than 30 years.  He had an enormous influence on the NBA family and young people globally, traveling the world to teach the values of the game and making a positive impact through his kindness and generosity.  The legacy he built will continue to live on through the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award, which recognizes the next generation of players’ commitment to positively impacting their communities throughout the NBA season.  Each NBA season has an offseason winner followed by seven monthly award winners.  The offseason winner receives the Bob Lanier trophy, and each monthly winner receives the David Robinson trophy.  The NBA and the NBPA Foundation also make a donation to the charity or foundation of the player’s choice.  To learn more, please visit communityassist.nba.com
