Troy Vincent, Pierre Trochet announced as Co-Chairs of “Vision28” Group to spearhead flag football’s efforts for Olympic inclusion

NFL and IFAF further strengthen partnership with joint push towards dream of flag football at Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028

Pierre Trochet, President of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and Troy Vincent, Executive Vice President of Football Operations of the National Football League (NFL) have today been announced as Co-Chairs of the newly formed "Vision28" Group to lead flag football's efforts towards inclusion at Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, where flag football is making a milestone first appearance at a major, global multi-sport event. The NFL is presenting partner of flag football at these Games, which have seen 8 women's and 8 men's teams representing 10 countries from across 3 continents light up the iconic Legion Field stadium in a series of electrifying contests.

As Co-Chairs of the Vision28 group, Trochet and Vincent will spearhead efforts to build on flag's World Games success with an eye on inclusion as an additional sport at the Olympic Games LA28. The double appointment underscores the true partnership between IFAF and the NFL – and the strength of both organizations' commitment to deliver flag's Olympic dream.

The Vision28 group will bring together key executives and ambassadors from IFAF, the NFL and the wider American football community, with a mission to showcase everything flag football can offer to LA28 and the Olympic movement, long-term.

Flag football is a short, non-contact format of American football, which is the United States' most popular sport. Flag is played by teams of five and prioritizes speed, creativity and athleticism – qualities that align with modern sports consumption habits and are popular with Gen Z audiences. It is also adaptable to a wide range of venues – stadiums, indoor arenas and temporary urban sports parks – making it a flexible and low-cost proposition for multi-sport event organizers.

Flag football is a cornerstone of the NFL's participation and development strategy and a growing focus for the organization. Internationally, it is one of the fastest-growing sports, already played by men and women through IFAF programs in more than 100 countries. The game has great scope for further growth thanks to its highly accessible and inclusive qualities, notably as a platform for female participation in American football.

Pierre Trochet, President of IFAF, said:

"It's an honor to work alongside Troy to realize our shared ambition of flag football in the Olympic Games. This joint leadership sends a clear message about the strength of our shared belief in everything flag football can bring to the Olympic Games and the Olympic movement.

"Flag is one of the world's fastest-growing sports for a reason. It's fast, it's creative, it's skillful, it's fun. It's America's sport with a Californian spirit. Flag will be a statement pick for LA28, embodying the vision of new-era Games at the nexus of sports and entertainment. We have seen a glimpse of all that potential here at the World Games."

Troy Vincent, Executive Vice President of Football Operations of the NFL, said:

"We see flag football as an all-inclusive sport, which makes it a great vehicle to spread the values of American football around the world.

"As co-chair of the Vision28 mission, the NFL is committed to place critical assets such as technological, broadcast, commercial, sports science, youth engagement, fan engagement at the service of the Olympic movement and our shared global goal of football for all."

Diana Flores, IFAF Athlete Ambassador, member of the Mexican women's national team, said:

"As an athlete it is my dream to see flag football in the Olympic Games - to see the game that I love represented on sport's greatest stage. It would truly be the highlight of my life to represent my country at Los Angeles 2028.

"Flag football is special - it's fast, creative and exciting - but most importantly it is for everyone; men and women; young and old; tall or short. On the field we are all equal. When I play, I feel free and empowered. In 2028, I hope the whole world will share our love for this sport."

NFL Partners with Contract With Black America to Strengthen Economic Equality

The NFL has spent and allocated over $125 million targeting Black-owned businesses over the last year, bolstering its commitment to economic equity

New York, NY – The National Football League (NFL) announced today its partnership with Contract with Black America Institute (CWBA), an economic inclusion-focused initiative led by artist and entrepreneur O'Shea Jackson, also known as Ice Cube. The CWBA and NFL partnership enhances the NFL's dedication to increasing economic equity and partnerships with Black owned businesses.

The collaboration focuses on identifying League-wide opportunities in the financial, tech, and production sectors, with a concentration on increasing direct and indirect spend to national Black businesses to help close America's racial and economic wealth gap.

"For more than a year, the CWBA Institute has been working closely with the NFL on identifying resources to build stronger, more substantive economic partnerships with the Black community," said Ice Cube. "Our team at CWBA, including my longtime business partner and entertainment lawyer Jeff Kwatinetz, and advisors Ja'Ron Smith and Chris Pilkerton, are focused on building corporate partnerships with measurable economic growth outcomes for Black communities across the country. We believe this is a giant step in the right direction."

Driven by a strong internal commitment to diversify the NFL's business partnerships with organizations like CWBA, the League has spent and allocated $125 Million with Black owned and operated businesses such as Ariel Investments, CityFirst/Broadway Bank, Cover Communications, and Fearless Technology during the last year.

"City First Bank is pleased to have formed a strategic partnership with the National Football League and Contract With Black America," said City First Bank President & CEO Brian Argrett. "This partnership supports and accelerates each organization's commitment to ensuring that minority businesses have access to capital and opportunities to fuel their growth. Partnerships like this are critical to driving equitable economic change within the Black community as well as supporting the growth of City First Bank and other Black-led and Black-owned financial institutions that deploy capital for economic growth and empowerment."

"Our partnership with CWBA is another reminder that partnering with intentional organizations is critical to everything we do at the League," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "Black businesses play a major role in our country's economic prosperity. We understand these businesses have not always had the opportunity for exponential growth, so we are pleased to have partners like Ice Cube and his organization, CWBA, in a continued, collective push toward greater economic inclusion."

Building off of its long-standing Business Connect program, which works to afford minority, woman, LGBTQ+ and veteran-owned businesses Super Bowl & Draft opportunities, the NFL looks to continue to expand and diversify its vendors through strategic national partnerships.

NFL and IFAF join forces to celebrate Olympic Day with Flag Football showcase in Africa

NFL players and Legends join school children in Ghana for Flag Football Day

The NFL and the International Federation of American Football [IFAF], the sport's world governing body, joined forces this week to celebrate the occasion of Olympic Day with a showcase of flag football in Accra, Ghana.

Children aged 12 to 14 from 10 local schools in Accra joined NFL stars and legends and the Ghana American Football Federation to play flag football and celebrate Olympic Day by wearing the colours of the Olympic rings and highlighting the #OlympicDay and #MoveForPeace messages. The young participants also had lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.

The NFL and IFAF joined sports organisations globally to promote the theme 'Move For Peace' – aligned to the International Olympic Committee's overarching message of 'Together For A Better World'. Olympic Day has been held annually on 23 June since 1948.

The Flag Football Day was one of a range of sporting activities, including a local talent identification camp and a fan event, during NFL Africa: The Touchdown, a week of festivities designed to engage the growing American Football fanbase and attract new players and fans across the nation and wider region. In particular, IFAF and the NFL are promoting flag football – the quicker, more inclusive, non-contact discipline of American football to drive forward the sport's international expansion plans and accelerate global growth.

Current NFL stars that took part in the event and wider week of activities included: Seattle Seahawks Uchenna Nwosu [Nigeria], Houston Texans Ogbonnia Okoronkwo [Nigeria], Cleveland Browns Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah [Ghana], and Indianapolis Colts Kwity Paye [Liberia]. The line-up also included NFL Legends Mathias Kiwanuka [Uganda], and Osi Umenyiora [Nigeria].

With more than 100 players of African descent [born in Africa or first generation born in the U.S.] playing in the NFL, this week's events highlighted the contributions of its African players and introduced the sport to the next generation of fans. These international events again reaffirmed the growing popularity of flag football and IFAF and the NFL's shared commitment to develop the discipline globally.

Pierre Trochet, President of IFAF, said:

"The partnership and integrated approach between the NFL and IFAF have helped to deliver amazing American football events in Ghana that showcase the youth-focused flag football discipline.

"American football is growing globally and we believe flag will power the next phase of its development in Africa and worldwide as a fast-paced, inclusive, easy to play and watch, format of the sport.

"On the occasion of Olympic Day, and looking ahead to flag's debut at The World Games next month, we are committed to growing the game around the world and engaging the next generation of sports fans."

Damani Leech, NFL Chief Operating Officer of International, said:

"Flag football is the cornerstone of the NFL's youth participation strategy. As we continue to invest in growing our youth fan base in both our domestic and international markets, flag football will increasingly be a focus of growth for the NFL.

"What we have witnessed this week in Africa gives us enormous confidence that American football has huge potential around the world.  Our relationship with IFAF, particularly through our flag development programmes, will be crucial in realising that potential and introducing a new generation of players and fans to the sport."
