#ClutchNBA: Mike Conley gana el premio Joe Dumars; NBA Sportsmanship Award

Grizzlies’ Mike Conley wins 2015-16

NBA Sportsmanship Award

NEW YORK – Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies is the recipient of the Joe Dumars Trophy

presented to the 2015-16 NBA Sportsmanship Award winner, the NBA announced today.

Conley, who previously won the award in 2013-14, joins Grant Hill (three) and Jason Kidd (two)

as multiple winners since the award’s inception in the 1995-96 season.

Conley (Southwest) was one of six divisional winners, joining the Toronto Raptors’ Luis Scola (Atlantic),

the Chicago Bulls’ Pau Gasol (Central), the Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard (Northwest),

the Golden State Warriors’ Shaun Livingston (Pacific) and 2014-15 winner Kyle Korver of the Atlanta Hawks

(Southeast). The NBA will make a $10,000 donation on behalf of Conley to his charity of choice,

Methodist Healthcare Foundation, with the money earmarked for the Methodist Sickle Cell Center.

Conley received 58 of 327 first-place votes and 2,209 total points from NBA players,

who voted on the award for the 12thconsecutive year.

The six finalists were awarded 11 points for each first-place vote, nine points for each second-place vote,

seven points for each third-place vote, five points for each fourth-place vote,

three points for each fifth-place vote and one point for each sixth-place vote.

Each team nominated one of its players for the award.

The six divisional winners from among 30 team nominees were selected by Mike Bantom,

NBA Executive Vice President, Referee Operations; Kiki VanDeWeghe,

NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations; Roger Mason,

NBPA Deputy Executive Director; and NBA Cares Ambassadors Jason Collins and Bob Lanier,

a Hall of Fame center.

Besides the donation to the Methodist Healthcare Foundation for the Methodist Sickle Cell Center

on behalf of Conley, the NBA will make $5,000 donations to the other five divisional winners’

charities of choice: MLSE Foundation (specifically MLSE LaunchPad) for Scola; Gasol Foundation for Gasol;

Self Enhancement Inc. for Lillard; Boys & Girls Club of Oakland for Livingston;

and Helping Hand Rescue Mission for Korver.

The annual award reflects the ideals of sportsmanship — ethical behavior, fair play and integrity —

in amateur and professional basketball, a key focus of the league’s NBA Cares program.

The trophy is named for former Detroit Pistons guard and Hall of Famer Joe Dumars,

the award’s first recipient, in 1995-96.

NBA EASTERN AND WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry and the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry today were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 28.

Lowry led the Raptors to a 3-1 week (3-0 in games in which he appeared) behind averages of 28.7 points (first in the Eastern Conference), 8.7 assists (tied-second in the conference) and 6.3 rebounds. Lowry recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists during a 122-95 win against the New York Knicks on Feb. 22. He closed his week by hitting the game-winning shot as part of a 43-point performance in a 99-97 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 26.

Curry led the Warriors to a 4-0 week behind a league-leading 43.8 points, producing games of 36, 42, 51 and 46 points. He made at least five three-point field goals in each contest, including two games with 10 or more threes, and shot 61.1 percent (33-of-54) from long distance. On Feb. 27, Curry capped his 46-point outing by making the game-winning three-pointer with 0.6 seconds left in overtime as the Warriors beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 121-118. He finished with 12 threes, tying an NBA single-game record.

Feb. 22 @ New York: Recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists during a 122-95 win over the Knicks.

Feb. 24 vs. Minnesota: Tallied 21 points, six assists and three rebounds in a 114-105 win over the Timberwolves.

Feb. 26 vs. Cleveland: Scored 43 points and added nine assists, five rebounds and four steals during a 99-97 win over the Cavaliers.

Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

Feb. 22 @ Atlanta: Scored 36 points and added eight assists and six rebounds during a 102-92 win over the Hawks.

Feb. 24 @ Miami: Posted 42 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 118-112 win against the Heat.

Feb. 25 @ Orlando: Made 20-of-27 field goals, including 10-of-15 from deep, en route to 51 points during a 130-114 win over the Magic.

Feb. 27 @ Oklahoma City: Scored 46 points, including 12-of-16 on threes, and had six assists in a 121-118 overtime win over the Thunder.

The Boston Celtics’ Brad Stevens and the Portland Trail Blazers’ Terry Stotts today were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.

Stevens led the Celtics to the best record in the Eastern Conference (9-3) in February, which included a 6-0 mark at TD Garden. The Celtics scored 100-plus points in 10 of 12 games and led the conference in scoring at 110.8 points. Boston recorded wins against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, and enters March with the East’s third-best record (36-25).

Stotts guided the Trail Blazers to a 9-2 record in February, which included wins over the Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers. Portland ranked fourth in the NBA in scoring (110.6 points) and enjoyed the league’s second-best point differential (+8.0 points). Stotts’ Trail Blazers closed the month winning eight of their final nine games and enter March tied with the Dallas Mavericks’ for sixth place in the Western Conference.

Other nominees for Coach of the Month were Charlotte’s Steve Clifford, Golden State’s Steve Kerr, San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich and Toronto’s Dwane Casey.

JANUARY NBA CARES COMMUNITY ASSIST AWARD

– NBA and Kaiser Permanente to donate $10,000 to the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation –

Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Conley has received the January NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente in recognition of his work to empower youth through basketball and encourage healthy and active living in the Memphis community, the NBA announced today. The award recognizes an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion that the league and its players share for giving back to their communities.

Kaiser Permanente and the NBA are honoring Conley for his efforts to improve the health and wellness of local youth and raise awareness for sickle cell anemia. Serving as a member of the NBA FIT Team and ambassador for Jr. Grizzlies, Conley has hosted and participated in more than two dozen basketball skills clinics for young boys and girls this season.

Conley soon recognized that clinic participants often lacked the proper footwear to play and launched the Shoe Up! with Mike Conley campaign, a seasonlong initiative to provide shoes and basketball skills training to kids from underserved communities across Memphis. In January, Shoe Up! with Mike Conley partnered with Under Armour, Samaritan’s Feet and more than 100 community volunteers to give new sneakers to 200 children, prior to leading a basketball clinic at FedEx Forum.

“I’m grateful that the NBA has given me a platform to support the causes that are important to me,” said Conley. “It’s a blessing to be recognized, but the real blessing is to be able to inspire youth to love this game and recognize its possibilities in creating change in our communities.”

A longtime advocate for research and treatment of sickle cell anemia, Conley often dedicates his time to hosting events and raising awareness and funds for the disease, as two of his family members suffer from sickle cell. In addition to supporting advanced sickle cell treatment centers like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Conley recently worked to secure a $15,000 contribution from local donors to Methodist Hospital in support of sickle cell research.

Before Memphis’ home game tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves, NBA Cares Ambassador Bob Lanier, Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace and Kaiser Permanente Director, Community Benefit Madelyn R. Adams will present Conley with the award during an oncourt ceremony. The award honors the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson, who improved the community piece by piece. In addition, Kaiser Permanente and the NBA will donate $10,000 on Conley’s behalf to the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation.

Los Hawks ganaron el primer juego 99-92 gracias a 21 puntos de Kyle Korver, un primer cuarto que ganaron 32-20, 11 robos de balón y 17 puntos de DeMarre Carroll. Los Hawks ganan el segundo juego 96-91 con 19 puntos, 7 rebotes y 4 bombazos de Paul Millsap. Al Horford anotó 14 con 13 rebotes, 7 asistencias y 2 tapones en la victoria. Los Nets ganaron el tercer juego 91-83 con 22 puntos y 13 rebotes de Brook Lopez seguido de 19 puntos de Bojan Bogdanovic y 18 puntos con 10 rebotes de Thaddeus Young. DeMarre Carroll lideró Atlanta con 22 puntos y Paul Millsap echó 18 puntos con 17 rebotes y 5 cortes de balón en la derrota. Los Nets empataron la serie 2-2 al vencer 120-115 a los Hawks en tiempo extra gracias a un magistral juego de Deron Williams con 35 puntos, 7 bombazos y 3 robos de balón. Los Cavs arrancaron la serie con una victoria 113-100 sobre Boston gracias a 30 puntos con 5 bombazos de Kyrie Irving en su debut en los Playoffs. LeBron echó 20 puntos con 6 rebotes y 7 asistencias mientras que Love aportó 19 puntos con 12 rebotes. Cleveland completa la barrida con una victoria 101-93 gracias a 27 puntos con 10 rebotes y 8 asistencias de LeBron. En este juego los Cavs perdieron a Kevin Love por el resto de la postemporada al dislocarse seriamente un hombro producto de una jugada con Kelly Olynyk, quien fue suspendido por un juego debido a esto, y también perdieron a JR Smith por dos juegos debido a que se ganó una suspensión por lanzarle un puño a Jae Crowder. Ahora los equipos donde juega LeBron James tienen 10-0 en la primera ronda.

(3)Bulls 4-2 sobre los (6)Bucks

Chicago derrotó 103-91 a los Bucks en el primer juego de la serie con Derrick Rose anotando 23 en su primer juego de postemporada desde el 2012. Jimmy Butler aportó 25 puntos a la victoria mientras que Pau Gasol coló 10 con 13 rebotes. Chicago ganó el segundo juego 91-82 gracias a 31 puntos de Jimmy Butler y otro double double de Pau Gasol con 11 puntos y 16 rebotes. Los Bulls necesitaron de dos tiempos extras para vencer 113-106 a los Bucks. Rose echó 34 puntos, Butler 24 y Gasol 17 con 14 rebotes. Giannis Antetokounmpo lideró a los Bucks con 25 puntos. Gracias a una impresionante jugada de backdoor de los Bucks, donde Jerryd Bayless anotó una güira al sonar la chicharra para ganar el cuarto juego 92-90, y así mantenerse con vida en la serie. Butler echó 33 puntos y Gasol realizó otro double double con 16 puntos y 10 rebotes. Milwaukee venció a Chicago 94-88 en el quinto juego gracias a 22 puntos con 9 asistencias y 8 rebotes de Michael Carter-Williams. Pau Gasol echó 25 puntos con 10 rebotes y se convirtió en el primer jugador de los Bulls desde Scottie Pippen (1992) en lograr 5 double double corridos. Los Bulls cierran la serie con una paliza 120-66 sobre los Bucks. Los Bulls ganaron la mitad 65-33, tiraron 30-15 de tres puntos y Mike Dunleavy Jr. anotó 20 con 4 bombazos.

(5) Wizards barren 4-0 a (4)Toronto

Los Wizards vencieron a Toronto 93-86 en tiempo extra gracias a 20 puntos de Paul Pierce. Los Wizards también se llevan el segundo juego 117-106 gracias a 26 puntos con 17 asistencias de John Wall y 28 puntos de Bradley Beal. Los Wizards le repitieron la dosis en el tercer juego a Toronto al vencerlos 106-99 gracias a 19 puntos con 15 asistencias de Wall y 24 puntos con 13 rebotes de Marcin Gortat. Paul Pierce coló 18 puntos, 11 de ellos fueron en el cuarto parcial mientras que DeMar DeRozan lideró a los Raptors con 32 puntos. Pronósticos: En la primera ronda en el Este me fui 3 de 4 con los Hawks, Cavs y Bulls entrando. Para la segunda ronda me voy con los Cavs y los Hawks.

Los Warriors cierran la barrida con una victoria 109-98 liderada por 39 puntos de Curry. Anthony Davis terminó su exitoso debut en la postemporada con 36 puntos, 11 rebotes y 3 tapones.

(2)Houston venció 4-1 a (7) Dallas

Houston ganó el primer juego 118-108 gracias a 24 puntos con 11 asistencias de James Harden para liderar 7 jugadores que anotaron en doble dígitos. Dirk Nowitzki fue el mejor por Dallas con 24 puntos y José Juan Barea echó 12 puntos, 3 rebotes y 4 asistencias en 22 minutos. Houston gana el segundo juego 111-99 gracias a 28 puntos con 12 rebotes de Dwight Howard y 24 puntos de Harden. Josh Smith se lució con 15 puntos, 8 rebotes y 9 asistencias, la mayoría en puentes aéreos a Howard. Barea coló 13 puntos con 6 rebotes y 2 asistencias. Luego del juego, tanto Rondo como Parsons quedaron fuera del resto de la postemporada debido a lesiones. Rondo soló jugó 10 minutos en el segundo juego. Harden echó 42 puntos en la victoria 130-28 de Houston en el tercer juego de la serie. Monta Ellis y Dirk Nowitzki colaron 34 puntos cada uno. Dallas dominó la primera mitad 72-65. Barea coló 11 puntos, 9 asistencias, 6 rebotes y un corte de balón en 25 minutos. Dallas se mantiene con vida al vencer 121-109 a Houston en el cuarto juego gracias a 31 puntos de Ellis, Barea con 17 puntos, 13 asistencias, 3 rebotes y corte de balón, y Al Farouq-Aminu con 16 puntos más 12 rebotes. Barea y Aminu fueron incluidos en la rotación abridora de Dallas. Houston cierra la serie al ganar el quinto juego 103-94 gracias a 28 puntos de Harden, 18 puntos, 19 rebotes y 4 tapones de Howard, y 20 puntos de Josh Smith. Ellis fue el mejor por Dallas con 25 puntos y Barea anotó 6 con 9 asistencias, 2 robos de balón y 6 rebotes en 37 minutos.

(3) Clippers eliminan 4-3 a los campeones (6) Spurs

¡Esta sin duda fue la mejor serie de la primera ronda! Los Clippers se llevaron el primero 107-92 con Chris Paul anotando 32 y Blake Griffin echando 26 puntos con dos clases de faciales por dunks. San Antonio empata la serie con victoria 111-107 en tiempo extra gracias a 28 puntos con 11 rebotes de Tim Duncan y 23 puntos de Kawhi Leonard. Blake Griffin realizó un triple double con 29 puntos, 12 rebotes y 11 asistencias. Duncan llegó a los 5 mil puntos en su carrera de postemporada. San Antonio se lleva el tercero 100-73 liderados por 32 puntos con 3 robos de balón de Leonard. Los Clippers se roban uno en San Antonio 114-105 para empatar la serie. Paul echó 34 puntos y Griffin anotó 20 con 19 rebotes. Los Spurs se llevan el quinto juego 111-107 con otro double double de Tim Duncan con 21 puntos y 11 rebotes. Blake Griffin coló 30 puntos con 14 rebotes, 7 asistencias y 4 robos de balón en la derrota. Un interferencia ofensiva de DeAndre Jordan evito un posible triunfo de los Clippers. Los Clippers provocan un séptimo juego al ganar el sexto 102-96 gracias a 26 puntos de Griffin y 19 puntos con 15 asistencias de Paul. Chris Paul coló un tiro milagroso en los segundos finales para darle el triunfo 111-109 a los Clippers sobre los Spurs. El juego entero fue un toma y dame que los campeones no pudieron ganar gracias a un triple double de Griffin con 24 puntos, 13 rebotes y 13 asistencias, y a los 27 puntos de Paul, incluyendo 5 bombazos. Los Clippers tiraron 27-14 de la línea de tres puntos. Duncan anotó 27 con 11 rebotes en la derrota mientras que Tony Parker lo ayudó con 20 puntos. ¡Que palo!

(5) Memphis vence 4-1 a (4) Portland

Memphis se lleva el primero 100-86 con Beno Udrih aportando 20 puntos, 7 rebotes y 7 asistencias desde el banco. Mike Conley y Zach Randolph anotaron 16 cada uno. LaMarcus Aldridge fue el mejor por los Blazers con 32 puntos, 14 rebotes y 4 tapones. Memphis se lleva el segundo 97-82 gracias a la dupleta de Mike Conley y Courtney Lee con 18 puntos cada uno. Memphis pone en jaque a Portland al vencerlos 115-109 en el tercer juego. Marc Gasol echó 25 puntos y Courtney Lee 20. Nicolas Batum con 27 puntos y CJ McCollum con 26 fueron los mejores por Portland. Damian Lillard anotó 22 y Aldridge 21 en la derrota en casa. Portland se mantiene con vida al ganar el cuarto juego 99-92 gracias a un cuarto parcial que ganaron 31-17 y a 32 puntos con 7 asistencias de Lillard. Meyers Leonard fue clave con 13 puntos con 13 rebotes y de 3-3 de la línea de los tres puntos. Memphis cierra la serie en cinco juegos con una victoria 99-93 liderada por 26 puntos con 14 rebotes de Marc Gasol. Memphis dominó los rebotes 56-38 y los cortes de balón 10-1. Courtney Lee aportó 20 puntos al triunfo mientras que Portland fue liderado por 33 puntos con 7 bombazos de CJ McCollum.
