Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Oklahoma City Thunder guard and 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum have been named to the 2024-25 Kia All-NBA First Team.

Antetokounmpo, Gilgeous-Alexander, Jokić and Tatum received First Team votes on all 100 ballots from a global media panel.  All four players continued their streaks of consecutive First Team honors – seven for Antetokounmpo, three for Gilgeous-Alexander, two for Jokić (five First Team nods overall) and four for Tatum.  The First Team selection is a first for Mitchell, who made the Second Team in the 2022-23 season.

The 2024-25 Kia All-NBA Second Team consists of New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Cavaliers forward-center Evan Mobley.

Brunson and Edwards have each been named to the Second Team for the second straight season.  For Curry, this is his 11th Kia All-NBA Team recognition (First, Second or Third Team).   James has extended his NBA record for most Kia All-NBA Team selections to 21, having been named to the First, Second or Third Team every season since 2004-05.  Mobley, the 2024-25 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, makes his Kia All-NBA Team debut.

The 2024-25 Kia All-NBA Third Team is composed of Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, LA Clippers guard James Harden, Knicks center-forward Karl-Anthony Towns and Thunder guard-forward Jalen Williams.

Cunningham and Williams are first-time Kia All-NBA Team honorees.  This is the second straight Third Team nod for Haliburton.  Harden has earned his eighth Kia All-NBA Team selection overall and first since the 2019-20 season.  Towns makes the Third Team for the third time.

The media voting panel selected players to the Kia All-NBA Team without regard to position. Players were awarded five points for each vote to the First Team, three points for each vote to the Second Team and one point for each vote to the Third Team.

Daniels, Dort and Thompson have been named to the Kia NBA All-Defensive Team (First or Second Team) for the first time.  Green has earned his fifth First Team honor and ninth All-Defensive Team selection overall.  For Mobley, the 2024-25 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, this marks his second First Team recognition (also in 2022-23).

The 2024-25 Kia NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara, Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, Memphis Grizzlies forward-center Jaren Jackson Jr., Oklahoma City guard-forward Jalen Williams and LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac.

Camara, Williams and Zubac are first-time selections to the Kia NBA All-Defensive Team.  This is the eighth All-Defensive Team honor for Gobert and the third for Jackson, with both players earning a Second Team spot for the first time.

A global media panel of 100 voters selected five players for the Kia NBA All-Defensive First Team and five players for the Kia NBA All-Defensive Second Team at any position.  Players received two points for each First Team vote and one point for each Second Team vote.

The 2024-25 Kia NBA All-Defensive Team is below.  The complete voting results are attached.  The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the recipient of the Michael Jordan Trophy as the 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the Kia NBA MVP for the first time, having finished second in the voting last season and fifth in 2022-23.  He becomes the second player from Canada to earn the honor, along with two-time winner Steve Nash (2004-05 and 2005-06).  Gilgeous-Alexander is also the third player to win the award with the Thunder, joining Kevin Durant (2013-14) and Russell Westbrook (2016-17).

In the 2024-25 regular season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.72 steals and 1.01 blocks in 34.2 minutes in 76 games, setting career highs in points, assists and blocks per game.

A seven-year veteran, Gilgeous-Alexander won the NBA scoring title for the first time.  He became the first player to lead the league in games with at least 20 points (75), 30 points (49), 40 points (13) and 50 points (four) in a season since James Harden in 2018-19.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s only regular-season game with fewer than 20 points was an 18-point performance against the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 30, 2024.  He scored at least 20 points in each of his final 72 games, the longest streak at any point in a single season since 1963-64 (when Wilt Chamberlain recorded an 80-game streak and Oscar Robertson had a 76-game streak).

The 6-6 Gilgeous-Alexander shot 51.9% from the field, a career-high 37.5% from three-point range and 89.8% from the free throw line (sixth in the NBA).  He made an NBA-leading 601 free throws and a personal-best 163 three-pointers, 68 more threes than his previous career high of 95, set last season.

Gilgeous-Alexander joined Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to average at least 32.0 points and 6.0 assists per game and shoot 50.0% or better from the field in a season.  Jordan accomplished the feat twice, in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons.

On defense, Gilgeous-Alexander was the only qualifying NBA player to average at least 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.  He ranked fifth in the NBA in steals per game for a Thunder team that led the league in defensive rating (106.6).

In addition to being selected as an NBA All-Star for the third consecutive season, Gilgeous-Alexander was named the Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month three times (October/November, December and March) and the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week twice (Weeks 10 and 20).  He earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team of the Emirates NBA Cup after leading Oklahoma City to a runner-up finish.

Behind Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder (68-14) finished atop the NBA and tied for the sixth-best single-season record in league history.  Oklahoma City outscored opponents by an NBA-record 12.9 points per game.

A global media panel of 100 voters selected the winner of the 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award.  The complete voting results are below.  The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.

NEW YORK, May 21, 2025 – The NBA today announced Toronto Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley as the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for the month of April.  Quickley created scholarships for his high school alma mater through the Immanuel Quickley Scholarship Awards and the Quickley Family Foundation for deserving students.  Quickley also supported holistic health and wellness programs through his IQ5 Elite Youth Basketball Program and involvement with Courtside Care, an event focused on delivering free health care screenings and basketball activities to communities in need.  Quickley will receive the David Robinson trophy, and the NBA will donate $10,000 to Havre de Grace Boys & Girls Club.

Quickley created scholarships for up to five students to receive full, four-year scholarships to attend his alma mater, the John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland.  The John Carroll School is a private catholic high school with tuition that exceeds $20,000 annually.  Quickley’s scholarships are aimed specifically for boys and girls that play basketball and demonstrate the qualities of leadership, academic excellence and high character.  The scholarship recipients will also be mentored by Quickley and his foundation, reinforcing the Quickley family’s mission to enhance the lives of youth.

Quickley also actively supports health and wellness through his participation with Courtside Care and his IQ5 Elite Youth Basketball Program.  Courtside Care, a collaborative effort between the Toronto Raptors, Sun Life and LAMP East Mississauga Health Clinic, is an event designed to support the health and well-being of low-income families by addressing immediate health concerns and long-term care through accessible programming.  Quickley spent the day speaking to over 120 individuals including 50 young people about the importance of prioritizing mental and physical health, getting regular health screens and staying active.  Through the IQ5 Elite Youth Basketball Program, Quickley provides high-level basketball development while also emphasizing academic excellence, character development, and community engagement.  Players in the program receive academic tutoring, leadership training, and mentorship.

“My mom’s always said the best thing you can do is give back and help people,” said Quickley.  “So yeah, I’ve worked hard to be great on the court, but at the end of the day, it’s really about making sure it’s not just about me and doing things that matter off the court too.”

Quickley receives the final monthly NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for the 2024-25 NBA season.  You can find all Community Assist Award recipients from this season here.

The NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award honors Bob Lanier, an NBA League Office executive and NBA Cares Ambassador for more than 30 years.  He had an enormous influence on the NBA family and young people globally, traveling the world to teach the values of the game and making a positive impact through his kindness and generosity.  The legacy he built will continue to live on through the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award recognition, which honors the next generation of players’ commitment to positively impacting their community throughout the NBA season.  Over the course of each NBA season, there is an offseason winner followed by seven monthly award winners.  The offseason winner receives the Bob Lanier trophy, and each monthly winner receives the David Robinson trophy.  The NBA also makes a donation to the charity or foundation of the player’s choice.  To learn more, please visit https://communityassist.nba.com/

Kevin Durant wins Magic Johnson Award for 2024-25 season

May 14, 2025 – Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns has won the 2024-25 Magic Johnson Award, which honors the NBA player who best combines excellence on the court with cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced today.

Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season and was named an All-Star for the 15th time. Off the court, Durant consistently fostered an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness with reporters who cover the NBA. This is his second time receiving the award, which he first earned in 2010-11.

“We’re really pleased to honor KD again,” said PBWA president Howard Beck. “Kevin has long been one of the NBA’s most thoughtful and accessible stars. He always makes time for reporters, whether for on-the-record interviews or just informal chit-chat, and he never shies away from any topic. He’s as eager to dive into the minutiae of a single play as he is to discuss broader issues facing the league. His passion for the game always comes through. Our members were also really appreciative of Kevin’s public advocacy for reopening locker rooms after the pandemic, recognizing how critical that access is for building trust and rapport between players and journalists.”

Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers finished second in this year’s balloting. The other finalists, based on nominations from PBWA members, were Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. A vote of the full PBWA membership determined the winner.

Durant is the fourth two-time honoree, joining Stephen Curry (2016, 2024), Damian Lillard (2017, 2020) and Shane Battier (2007, 2013).

The award, created in 2001, is named in honor of Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the former Los Angeles Lakers star, who was consistently engaging, thoughtful and gracious with the media throughout his Hall of Fame career.

The PBWA annually honors an NBA PR staff (Brian McIntyre Award), coach (Rudy Tomjanovich Award) and star player (Magic Johnson Award) who go above and beyond to work with the media and help inform fans. Under the PBWA’s current rules, adopted in 2020, no team or individual can win in consecutive years.

PBWA Announces Relaunch of All-Interview Team

Curry, Durant, Antetokounmpo among top honorees for 2024-25

May 8, 2025 – Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant headline the inaugural NBA All-Interview team, which honors the players who are consistently thoughtful, insightful and engaging with the media, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced today.

Curry, of the Golden State Warriors, and Durant, of the Phoenix Suns, were the top finishers in a vote of PBWA members and are joined on the 2024-25 All-Interview first team by Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Draymond Green of the Warriors.

Making the All-Interview second team are Mike Conley Jr. of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat, Josh Hart of the New York Knicks and Damian Lillard of the Bucks.

The All-Interview team, once a staple of the NBA’s official slate of awards, was discontinued after the 2003-04 season. The PBWA is bringing it back now, as a way to recognize the players who consistently provide the insights, details and depth that bring our stories to life, while meeting (or exceeding) their mandated media obligations.

“We’re thrilled to revive the All-Interview team and pleased to have the league’s support in bringing it back,” said PBWA president Howard Beck. “You can’t tell great stories without great interviews. We’re truly grateful to the players who make our jobs more enjoyable and our stories more illuminating.”

More than four dozen players were nominated by PBWA members. Twenty-five finalists were selected by a PBWA subcommittee to create the official ballot, which was voted on by the entire membership. Players received two points for every first-team vote and one point for every second-team vote.

The other 15 finalists, in alphabetical order, were: Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic), Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons), DeMar DeRozan (Sacramento Kings), Donte DiVincenzo (Minnesota Timberwolves), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), Al Horford (Boston Celtics), Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks), C.J. McCollum (New Orleans Pelicans), Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers), Georges Niang (Cleveland Cavaliers/Atlanta Hawks), Kristaps Porzingis (Boston Celtics), Austin Reaves (Los Angeles Lakers), Fred VanVleet (Houston Rockets) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs).

The All-Interview team joins the PBWA’s three longstanding appreciation awards:

* The Magic Johnson Award, presented annually since 2000-01, honors the NBA player who best combines excellence on the court with cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans.

* The Rudy Tomjanovich Award, launched in 2010-11, honors an NBA head coach for his cooperation with the media and fans, as well as his excellence on the court.

* The Brian McIntyre Award, launched in 2006-07, is presented to the team media-relations staff that best exemplifies standards of professionalism and excellence.

The 2024-25 honorees for all three awards will be announced later this month.

The PBWA is composed of more than 200 writers and editors who cover the NBA regularly for newspapers, magazines and online news outlets.

Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti has been named the 2024-25 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year.

Presti has earned the annual honor for the first time.  He previously finished second in the voting three times (2009-10, 2019-20 and 2023-24).

Presti assembled a team that went an NBA-leading 68-14 in the 2024-25 regular season, tied for the sixth-best record in league history.  Oklahoma City set the NBA record for scoring differential, outscoring opponents by 12.9 points per game.

Last offseason, Presti’s player acquisitions included guard Alex Caruso and center Isaiah Hartenstein.  Caruso, a Kia NBA All-Defensive Team selection in each of the previous two seasons, averaged 7.1 points and 1.61 steals per game and helped Oklahoma City lead the NBA in defensive rating (106.6) this season.  Hartenstein averaged career highs of 11.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in his first season with the Thunder.

Presti is in his 18th season with the Thunder franchise after being named general manager in June 2007.  Prior to that, he spent seven years with the San Antonio Spurs, rising from video intern to vice president/assistant general manager.

The voting panel for the 2024-25 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year Award consisted of one basketball executive from each NBA team.  The complete voting results are below.  The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson is the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the 2024-25 NBA Coach of the Year.

Atkinson, in his first season as the Cavaliers’ head coach and fifth season as an NBA head coach, has been named the NBA Coach of the Year for the first time.  He becomes the third head coach to earn the honor with Cleveland, joining Bill Fitch (1975-76) and Mike Brown (2008-09).

Under Atkinson, the Cavaliers (64-18) finished with the second-best record in franchise history and earned the No. 1 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.  He tied for the fourth-most victories by a head coach in his first season with a team.

Cleveland joined the 2006-07 Dallas Mavericks as the only two teams to have three separate winning streaks of 12 or more games in a season.  The Cavaliers won their first 15 games to match the second-best start to a season in NBA history.  They also recorded a team-record 16-game winning streak from Feb. 5 – March 14.

Atkinson led Cleveland to several other single-season franchise highs, including scoring average (NBA-leading 121.9 points per game), scoring differential (9.5 points per game), road victories (30) and three-pointers made (1,303).

Atkinson was named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month twice, for games played in October/November and December.  He also earned a spot to serve as a head coach in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time.

A global media panel of 100 voters selected the winner of the 2024-25 NBA Coach of the Year Award.  The complete voting results are below.  The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.

Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday is the recipient of the Joe Dumars Trophy for winning the 2024-25 NBA Sportsmanship Award.  This is the second NBA Sportsmanship Award for Holiday, who also earned the honor in the 2020-21 season with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Presented annually since the 1995-96 season, the NBA Sportsmanship Award honors a player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court.  The trophy is named for Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion Joe Dumars, who won the inaugural NBA Sportsmanship Award and played his entire 14-year career with the Detroit Pistons.

Each NBA team nominated one of its players for the 2024-25 NBA Sportsmanship Award.  From the list of 30 team nominees, a panel of league executives selected six finalists (one from each NBA division).  Current NBA players selected the winner from the list of six finalists.  The complete voting results are available here.

In addition to winning the NBA Sportsmanship Award twice, Holiday is a three-time recipient of the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award for his selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment and dedication to team.  Holiday is also a finalist for the 2024-25 NBA Social Justice Champion Award, marking the third time he has been a finalist for the honor in its five-year history.

A 16-year NBA veteran, Holiday is a two-time NBA All-Star and six-time Kia NBA All-Defensive Team selection.  He has won two NBA championships (one each with Boston and Milwaukee) and two Olympic gold medals with the USA Men’s National Team.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the 2024-25 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year.

Presented annually since the 2012-13 season, the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award recognizes the player deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players, and commitment and dedication to team.

A panel of league executives selected 12 finalists (six from each conference) for the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award.  Current NBA players selected the winner from the list of finalists.  The complete voting results are available here.

Curry has won the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award for the first time.  He previously won the NBA Sportsmanship Award (2010-11), which honors a player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court.

A 16-year NBA veteran, Curry is a two-time Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, an 11-time NBA All-Star and the league’s career leader in three-pointers made.  He has won four NBA championships, all with Golden State, the only franchise for which he has played.

The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award is named for Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, whose storied friendship transcended their Hall of Fame accomplishments.

Twyman and Stokes were teammates on the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955-58.  In the last game of the 1957-58 regular season, Stokes sustained an injury that led to his falling into a coma days later and becoming permanently paralyzed.  He was diagnosed with post-traumatic encephalopathy, a brain injury that damaged his motor-control center.  Stokes was supported for the rest of his life by Twyman, who became his legal guardian and advocate.

Twyman helped organize the NBA’s Maurice Stokes Memorial Basketball Game, which raised funds for Stokes’ medical care and, after Stokes’ death in 1970 at age 36, for other players in need.  In 2004, after years of lobbying by Twyman, Stokes was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.  Twyman, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983, died in 2012.
