With the Super Bowl of pro wrestling taking place this Sunday, April 2 in Orlando, professional oddsmaker and handicapping theorist Jim Murphy (bio below) of sportsbettingexperts.com has released the latest list of prop bets and current odds for Wrestlemania 33. (If you do reference any of these odds, please credit/hyperlink sportsbettingexperts.com).
Braun Strowman is a heavy favorite to win the Andre the Giant memorial match -- do Sami Zayn or Big Show have a chance at +1750 (a $100 bet would profit $1750).
Will Connor McGregor, Kenny Omega or Kazuchika Okada make an appearance? (probably not)
Will we see a championship belt or ringside chair used as a weapon? How about a "ref bump" or disqualification?
See the full list of odds below...
Any interest in covering the odds or talking with Jim about how oddsmakers handicap an event like Wrestlemania?

Wrestlemania 33 Proposition Betting Odds

–Despite getting little respect pro wrestling has been popular for over a century.
– ‘Wrestlemania’ is considered the ‘Super Bowl of pro wrestling’.
– Just like the Super Bowl proposition bets on Wrestlemania are a natural.
I’ve always been upfront whenever I’ve been completely wrong about a prediction. I told anyone who would listen that nobody would buy a combination iPod and cellphone since in my opinion they’d prefer dedicated devices that do both. Despite my prognostication to the contrary, the iPhone has done reasonably well. I thought the now ubiquitous Red Box video rental kiosks were destined for the same painful demise as Blockbuster and the rest of the physical media rental world but have carved out a very healthy niche. And relevant to this article I didn’t think that Wrestlemania would ‘make it’, at least not as a super spectacular marquee event.
I watched Wrestlemania 1 in what was then known as the ‘Special Events Center’ at the University of Utah. It’s now called the ‘Huntsman Center‘ and is where the Utes basketball team plays their home games. A few friends and I got up early on a Sunday morning to witness the event. Wrestlemania 1 had an afternoon start time at New York’s Madison Square Garden and with the two hour time difference it sure felt early. I was the only hardcore wrestling fan of the group but the rest of my party liked a good spectacle.
It’s questionable whether Wrestlemania 1 delivered on either count. The main event was a strange matchup between Hulk Hogan and Mr. T (with Jimmy Snuka) against Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff (with Bob Orton). Mr. T was a fairly credible wrestler for having so little experience but top to bottom it was a lackluster event. The lineup of matches wasn’t much better than you’d find at a WWE house show in that timeframe. One major issue wasn’t the WWE’s fault–the grainy video quality and muffled sound was common in the pre-digital era and likely was the responsibility of the venue. The actual wrestling was marginal at best–here’s Dave Meltzer’s star ratings for Wrestlemania 1:
-Tito Santana vs. The Executioner: **1/2
-King Kong Bundy vs. S.D. Jones: DUD
-Matt Bourne vs. Ricky Steamboat: ***1/4
-Brutus Beefcake vs. David Sammartino: **
-Greg Valentine vs. Junkyard Dog: 1/2*
-Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo vs. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff: ***
-Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd: -**
-Leilani Kai vs. Wendy Richter: *
-Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff: N/A
The ‘NA’ for the main event was due to Meltzer’s decision to not evaluate it by the same standards as an actual wrestling match. The low quality of wrestling and my lack of enthusiasm notwithstanding, the event did very well. It drew over a million viewers to closed circuit venues making it at the time the biggest such event in history. Within the next couple of years pay-per-view technology would begin to blanket the country and that helped the WWE make Wrestlemania an annual tradition.
Wrestlemania 33 will take place this Sunday, April 2 in Orlando, Florida. Below you’ll find betting odds on every match on the card as well as a number of ‘specials’ covering various topics:
